Why Daughter’s Sexuality Not A Surprise To Johnny Depp?

Lily-Rose Depp Sexuality

When Lily-Rose Depp came out as bisexual, the public was surprised, but her father Johnny Depp was not.

Johnny told the Daily Mail, “I already knew because she tells me everything—she’s not afraid to say anything to me. We’re super close, and I’m very proud of our relationship.”

Lily-Rose’s sexuality was shared with fans through her friend iO Tillett Wright’s Instagram account. The 16-year-old posed for Self Evident Truths, a project featuring LGBTQI individuals.

Johnny added, “And, whatever she is doing, if she needs any advice, I’m there for her. Kids will make their own choices, but the only thing you can do as a parent is to offer support. And I do.”

The only thing Johnny is worried about is how fast Lily-Rose is growing up as she advances in her modeling and acting career. He admits he never expected Lily-Rose to become an actress, but it is her passion. Johnny also says she is good at what she does, saying, “She can certainly deliver.”

And she does deliver, having been in two films and looking stunning as she models for Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld.

“What’s happening to Lily-Rose is something I didn’t expect to happen this early, that’s for sure! It’s such a funny thing when you see your daughter transitioning from your baby, your little girl, to suddenly being a young woman,” Johnny confesses.

Lily-Rose Depp on LGBTQ Campaign

Lily-Rose Depp is clearing up comments about her sexuality after some people misunderstood an LGBTQ campaign she took part in.

The 16-year-old model and actress told Nylon that joining the Self Evident Truths campaign, which supports sexual fluidity, confused people about her sexuality. However, her involvement wasn’t about her sexuality.

The Self Evident Truths campaign features 10,000 people in the U.S. who identify as anything other than 100% straight. When news of her participation broke, her father, Johnny Depp, said he knew about it and was very proud.

Lily-Rose explained that she joined the campaign to promote the idea that sexuality doesn’t need labels. Unfortunately, some people thought it was her way of coming out.

“A lot of people thought I was coming out,” she told Nylon, “but that’s not what I meant. I just wanted to say that you don’t have to label your sexuality. Many kids today aren’t labeling their sexuality, and I think that’s cool.”

In the same interview, she explained that people’s reactions showed they wanted to label her, which proves why the campaign is important. It sparked a needed conversation about labeling.

A YouGov survey found that nearly a third of Americans aged 18-29 identify somewhere between “exclusively heterosexual” and “exclusively homosexual.”

“You don’t have to label yourself because it’s not fixed. Sexuality is fluid, and there’s a lot of pressure on kids to label themselves. I wanted to say that it’s not necessary; you don’t need to label yourself,” she said.
