Nearly two months after Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt filed to remove “Pitt” from her last name, the 18-year-old has taken another step in California’s name-change process.
Shiloh recently published an announcement in the Los Angeles Times, stating she wants her name to be “Shiloh Jolie.”
According to California law, before a judge can approve a name change, the request must be published in a newspaper for one month. This legal notice makes the request official.

A week after Shiloh’s petition was filed in May, a source close to Pitt told PEOPLE that Brad Pitt is “aware and upset” about the change.
“He knows and is upset that Shiloh dropped his last name,” said the source. “Being reminded that he’s lost his children is tough for Brad. He loves and misses them. It’s very sad.”
The source added that although Brad is happy with his current partner, Ines de Ramon, being away from his children “pains him.”

Shiloh’s name-change documents were filed on May 27, her 18th birthday.
Angelina Jolie, 48, and Brad Pitt, 60, have six children: Maddox, 22, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, Pax, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16. Another source close to the family told PEOPLE that Brad has “virtually no contact” with his adult children but still visits his younger kids.
“He barely has any contact with the older kids. His time with the younger kids has also decreased due to his filming schedule,” the source said.
The source also mentioned that the custody agreement allows Brad visitation rights with his minor children, adding, “[Angelina] has the kids most of the time, but according to their agreement, Brad has visitation with the younger kids.”
